Delaware school board elections taking place statewide on Tuesday
SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. – Tuesday marks election day for Delawareans casting ballots in school board elections.
In Sussex County, residents on the West side will make their picks for Seaford, Laurel, Woodbridge, and Delmar school districts. George W. Del Farno and Marcus Wright, Joe Kelly and Linda Hitchens, Corey Grammer and Rita Hovermale, and Dawn Adkins Litchford and Lauren Hudson are vying for the seats, respectively.
Director of the Sussex County Department of Elections Bo McDowell says school board elections are especially important. “As a parent, if I’m having an issue ranging from curriculum, transportation, pretty much any issue involving schools – if I don’t feel like I’m being heard I would go ahead and call my school board member,” he said.
McDowell says historically, only about 200 to 300 voters made their way to the polls for school board races. “Unfortunately, we’ve had historically very small turnouts,” he said. “I’d like to see more people get out and vote this year, and take it seriously, because it very much impacts your youth.”
Voters should make sure they are prepared before they cast their ballots. McDowell says you will need to bring proof of identification. That includes a Delaware driver’s license, automobile registration card, ID card, voter’s polling place card, U.S. postal material, or a bank check book with your name and address.
