New crime reporting system set to make more accurate reports

WORCESTER CO., Md.  – The Worcester County Sheriffs’ Office is implementing a new crime reporting system.

Sheriff Matt Crisafulli says the new system will be through NIBRS, rather than the current Summary Reporting System. The system will allow police to report crime data fully. For example, if there is a burglary and subsequent offenses with that particular incident, under the new system all of the crimes would be reported, rather than just the burglary. The information that is being reported is public knowledge which will activate new changes here on Delmarva.

“But with NIBRS it’s going to be much more defined reporting and I want our residents to know that with this transition they’re going to see an uptick in criminal statistic information,” the Sheriff tells 47 ABC.

The new system will report all details attached to one specific crime making a more accurate report. Sheriff Crisafulli says the system is set to go into effect fully in mid-May.
