Dover man arrested after a vehicle pursuit
DOVER, Del. — 33-year-old Antoine Burgess of Dover, Delaware was arrested on multiple charges following a pursuit on Wednesday afternoon.
On April 13th, at 1:33 P.M. a trooper on patrol in the area of South Dupont Highway and South Governor’s Avenue in Dover saw a black Audi Q7 with a canceled registration traveling southbound on South Dupont Highway. The trooper stopped the vehicle, however, the vehicle drove faster and a pursuit began. Burgess drove through the sports fields at Kent County Recreation Center and became disabled after striking a fence on Oats Lane in Wyoming, Delaware. Officials say Burgess then attempted to run away on foot but troopers chased him and successfully took him into custody.
Police searched the vehicle and they found .11 grams of cocaine. In the vehicle was a 22-year-old female victim who was taken to Kent General Hospital for minor injuries. Police conducted a computer inquiry, where they found Burgess had a revoked driver’s license and active warrants for his arrest. Burgess was then taken to Troop 3 and charged with:
- Reckless Endangering First Degree (Felony)
- Disregarding a Police Officer Signal (Felony)
- Criminal Mischief
- Resisting Arrest
- Possession of a Controlled Substance
- Driving While Suspended or Revoked
- Numerous traffic violations
Burgess has been committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $6,012 secure bond.
