431,000 Jobs added to the economy for the month of March

DELMARVA – For the month of March, the economy added 431 thousand new jobs.

47ABC spoke with a White House representative to learn more about the job report. Kathy Berner tells us that the unemployment rate fell to 3.6% in result of the new jobs. She says that rate is almost where we were before the pandemic started. Breaking it down Berner says this allowed for nearly 8 million people to get back to work, because of the President’s American Rescue Plan Act. And more importantly, the job increase applies to everyone.

“It also shows more people looking for work and more people in prime-age employment-those key years of when people are working, looking for jobs, and that’s a real sign of strength and health in our economy,” Kathy Berner, Deputy White House Communication Director tells us.

She says families will be able to pay their bills, and get new sports equipment for kids, ultimately allowing Americans to get back on the move, comfortably. Berner says the recovery we are seeing is widely shared and we may see the rate slow down but she ensures that is normal.

“Wages are growing, people are getting paid more, particularly low wage workers, and across different demographics, the unemployment rate for women, for African American women, Latinos, all backed down to where it was before the pandemic,” Berner says.
