Saturday night crash in Harrington kills one

HARRINGTON, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a Bridgeville man Saturday night.

Police say around 6:53 p.m., a 31-year-old Marydel, Md. man was driving a Honda Civic northbound on South DuPont Highway, approaching Hopkins Cemetery Road. The Honda entered the left turn lane and media crossover, and began crossing the intersection.

At the same time, a 31-year-old Salisbury, Md. woman was approaching the intersection in a GMC Terrain southbound on South DuPont Highway. Police say the front bumper of the GMC hit the Honda’s passenger side door. The force of the crash pushed the Honda into a stop sign, and then into the parking lot of Callaway Furniture.

The 31-year-old Marydel man was flown to an area hospital in serious condition. The 30-year-old Bridgeville man was in the passenger seat, and pronounced dead at the scene. His identification is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

The 31-year-old Salisbury woman was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Also in the GMC were a 59-year-old female, a 31-year-old female, a 6-year-old female, a 5-year-old female, and a 3-year-old male. All passengers were taken to an area hospital, treated for minor injuries, and later released.
