PRESTON, Md. – A Caroline County man has been arrested in connection to a stabbing Thursday afternoon.

Maryland State Police detectives say at around 2:50 p.m., troopers responded to Holly Park Drive and Gilpin Point Road for a reported stabbing. Preliminary investigation has revealed that officers with the Maryland Natural Resources Police and Caroline County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to assist troopers, who had located the female victim suffering from an apparent stab wound.

The suspect reportedly tried to evade arrest while inflicting injuries to himself with a knife. After more than 15 minutes, law enforcement tried to utilize multiple non-lethal methods to diffuse the situation. At one point, a trooper was able to knock the knife out of the suspect’s hand, and he was taken into custody.

The suspect and victim reportedly knew each other and were both flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore for treatment of their injuries.
