Jeff Merritt announces candidacy for Wicomico County Council 2nd District seat
SALISBURY, Md. – The Wicomico County Council’s 2nd district has a new candidate in the running. Salisbury business owner Jeff Merritt is seeking the position being vacated by council member Nicole Acle, as she runs for House District 37B.
Merritt owns Minuteman Press and tells us he’ll be leveraging his experience as an employer and business owner to help move forward business-friendly agenda if elected to the council. He says renovating school buildings and working to upgrade broadband are priorities for him.
Merritt tells us quality education is key for finding good employees and wants to help by channeling state and local funds to non-profits concerned with improving education.
“Kids who are in schools could become your employees so want the education system to churn out the best employees for businesses,” Merritt said.
He is also well-known in the community for his work with his non-profit Operation We Care. In OWC, Merritt and his wife work with volunteers to support both active and retired military.
Merritt says he’s heard from community members that certain buildings are getting old and could benefit from a renovation. He says he would work to get state dollars to match local funds to help get those projects underway. Merritt is currently running against David Snyder for the position.
