New book club for residents in Talbot County
TALBOT COUNTY, Md. — Just days away a new book club will begin in Talbot County.
The book club will focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. 47ABC spoke with Christina Acosta to learn more about the club. She tells us that throughout the sessions, locals will discuss critical questions focused on different backgrounds. She also says the focus will be on how people’s different points of view allow them to perceive the book.
With the help of Talbot Family Networks, Talbot County Free Library Director and Acosta were able to come together to put this activity together to do something unique for the community. She says “we had a list of books we had ideas on and they covered specifically on characters and writers who come from a Latino background, African American, queer background or Muslim background… We want them to learn that there are people with different backgrounds and we have to welcome everybody and America is a melting pot. We want them to realize there are people from different backgrounds and it’s ok to talk about it as long as we are thinking outside of the box.”
Sessions will be on the second Thursday of every month. The course promotes engagement with other like-minded people through these topics. To register for the sessions you can visit their website.
