LAUREL, Del. – 35-year-old Jeremy Showell of Laurel is facing felony charges after resisting arrest and assaulting three state troopers.

Police say around 8:05 p.m. Tuesday night, troopers responded to a home in the 28000 block of Seaford Road for a domestic incident. Troopers were told that Showell was acting disorderly in the home, and had an active warrant from Laurel Police Department for shoplifting.

When troopers arrived on scene, they found Showell in the backyard. Police say Showell was told he was under arrest, but he failed to comply with commands to place his hands behind his back. As troopers were trying to put Showell in handcuffs, they say he punched a trooper in the face, causing minor injuries, before running away.

A trooper used a taser on Showell and again tried to take him into custody, when he punched another trooper in the face, according to police. The trooper suffered minor injuries. Police say Showell continued to resist arrest, and punched a third trooper in the face, causing minor injuries.

Police were able to get Showell into custody. None of the three assaulted troopers required medical attention, according to police. Showell was taken to Delaware State Police Troop 5, where he was charged with three felony counts of Second Degree Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, and one felony count of Resisting Arrest With Force.

Showell was arraigned in the Justice of the Peace Court #3. He was taken to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $32,500.00 cash bond.
