Healthcare workers needed in Delaware hospitals

DELAWARE — Governor John Carney held a press briefing today regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.

Delaware continues to stay in a mandatory indoor mask mandate.

Governor Carney reports 2,514 new COVID-19 cases in the first state, including 683 hospitalizations with 71 critical cases. A total of 2,424 lives have been lost. However, more than 630,000 people have been fully vaccinated.

Officials report all of the Delaware hospitals have more patients than they’ve ever had since the start of the pandemic. 150 Delaware National Guard members are helping out in hospitals, doing non-clinical tasks.

Officials are now asking that more medical professionals help out with the surge where they can.

Governor Carney says “We do need additional help. Delaware hospitals need your help, if you’re a retired or a former healthcare worker, please contact the hospitals association.”

To fill these positions officials are also accepting students studying in health fields and volunteers to complete non-clinical work. The link to apply is here.

In addition, 125,000 KN95 masks will be given out to students 6th grade and higher, educators, and child care providers starting next week. Governor Carney says “There is nothing more important than making sure our children can remain in the classrooms.” Child care providers will need to pre-register through a link that will be sent from the Delaware Department of Education.

The White House website for COVID testing at-home kits is now available here.
