Gov. Hogan launches $248M Maryland Homeowner Assistance Fund
MARYLAND – Governor Larry Hogan announced the launch of a $248 million Maryland Homeowner Assistance Fund. The money will be given out by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development to help with mortgage relief, home repairs, housing counseling, and legal services.
“Across Maryland, there are homeowners who are struggling to keep up with their mortgage payments due to the financial hardships related to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Governor Hogan. “The programs we are announcing today through the Homeowner Assistance Fund will help keep Marylanders in their homes and support our state’s economic recovery.”
About $171 million will be used to provide loans for homeowners who have experienced financial hardship. $34 million will fund grants to assist with property tax, homeowner association fees, and other types of delinquencies. $10 million with support the WholeHome program, which helps homeowners pay for repairs and efficiency improvements.
Additionally, $8 million is being allocated towards housing counseling agencies, and $3 million towards legal services for homeowners in the foreclosure process. $22 million will be used in program case management, administration, marketing, and outreach.
