Fatal vehicle fire in Lincoln kills one, blaze remains under investigation
LINCOLN, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a single vehicle crash that happened Friday night.
Police say around 9:15 a.m., a 1995 Chevrolet Blazer was traveling northbound on Greentop Road, south of Bunting Avenue. For unknown reasons, the vehicle caught fire while it was still in motion. The driver went off the road and came to a controlled stop on a grassy area before the vehicle caught on fire.
Police say the driver tried to get out of the vehicle but was stuck inside. He was located in the driver seat and pronounced dead on scene. The victim’s body has been turned over to the Division of Forensic Science for identification. Meanwhile, the Delaware State Fire Marshal says the fire started in the dashboard/firewall of the vehicle.
The roadway was closed for about three hours while first responders cleared the scene. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Corporal Kenneth Argo at 302-644-5020.
