Dover Police issue warning about street parking, snow removal ahead of possible storm
DOVER, Del. – The Dover Police Department is asking people to keep the potential threat of a snow storm in mind when parking their cars. Police say all vehicles must be removed from Governors Avenue, State, Division, and Water Streets by an hour after snowfall begins.
Vehicles that have not been moved will be towed at the owner’s expense, according to police. Police are asking for vehicles to be moved because they say the routes are important for evacuations, safe routes for first responders, getting to area hospitals, and overall public safety.
Police say while those roads are the only ones required to be cleared, they also suggest avoiding all street parking in the city. This will allow ample room for snow removal and first responders, and help owners avoid getting their vehicles plowed in, according to police.
Dover Police add that if you must travel, to do so safely. They are advising driving slowly, paying extra attention to the roads, and maintaining a safe following distance at all times. Police are also asking people to allow extra commute time.
City of Dover residents must also clear their sidewalks of snow within 24 hours after final snowfall, according to police. This code is enforced by City of Dover Inspections/Code Enforcement.
