Delaware State Police identify Dover woman allegedly murdered by son


DOVER, Del. – Delaware State Police have identified the woman who they say was murdered by her son Friday night. The victim has been identified as 67-year-old Debra Leonard of Dover.

Police say around 7:19 p.m. Friday night, troopers were called to a home in the 200 block of Harriet Street for a report of a shooting. 35-year-old Kyle Leonard had called 911 and said he had shot and killed his mother inside the home.

When troopers arrived, they found Leonard in the front yard, where he was arrested. Troopers found his 67-year-old mother dead inside the home. A handgun was also recovered from the scene.

Leonard was taken to Delaware State Police Troop 3, and charged with first degree murder, and felony possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #7, and taken to Sussex Correctional Institution on $200,000 cash bond.
