Delaware OSHA reminding employers of winter safety hazards to avoid
DELAWARE- Delaware’s OSHA office has released a list of ways for businesses and employees to avoid hazards and injuries during the winter weather. That list includes employers providing proper protective equipment from the elements including coats and gloves. The list also encourages workers to recognize the symptoms of cold stress, hypothermia, and frostbite.
Delaware OSHA recommends using the buddy system during shifts where weather may be dangerous, as well as scheduling work around the warmest hours of the day to prevent injury.
Delaware OSHA also says if these procedures aren’t being followed workers have a right to speak up and report violations.
“If these items are not being conducted by companies or employers then the employees have a right to request them and if they are still not followed they should contact their OSHA office or hotline,” said OSHA Assistant Area Director Dalia Nichols.
