Benefit to be held for 6-month-old baby after 170-day NICU stay

FEDERALSBURG, Md. – The VFW #5246 is helping a local family as their baby recovers, following a 170-day stay at the NICU.

Doctors are calling 6-month-old Baby Tucker a medical mystery. Tucker’s family tells 47 ABC, he has had five major surgeries since he was born such as a colonoscopy bag and a tracheotomy surgery. Although the baby is coming home from rehab soon, his parents tell us that he has a long way to go before he can have a normal life.

“It’s nothing I would ever wish on anybody, it takes more of a toll on the person than anyone could ever imagine,” says Ethan Henry, Tucker’s father.

That’s why the VFW is hosting a benefit for baby Tucker and his family to help with medical bills and home care. This Saturday at the VFW, fundraiser organizers are holding a silent auction from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and a dance from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m to raise money for baby Tucker. We’re told they’re asking for auction donations, monetary donations, and cakes for a cake wheel. Henry says all of this support is overwhelming but much appreciated.

“It will definitely be a huge change in our lives but with all the help from just the friends and medical support through the hospital, we’re hoping that it won’t be a hard change,” says Henry.
