‘Taste Of Delaware’ tour spotlighting small businesses, providing them support

MILFORD, Del. – Mispillion River Brewing was one of many stops in this year’s Taste of Delaware tour, held to honor many small businesses in the First State.

U.S. Senator Chris Coons, along with the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce, brought back the Taste of Delaware, but this year was on wheels.

“It’s a great opportunity to meet with some of our small local businesses. It’s a way to encourage them as we’re coming out of this pandemic and to listen to some of their concerns and to frankly have a good time together,” said Senator Coons.

Eric Williams, Owner of Mispillion River Brewing, says the support of the senator and others has helped keep their doors open.

“It takes some stress off especially in a time where you think that you’ll never make it through a shutdown of business like our industry had,” Williams said.

Like many industries seeing the impact of supply chain shortages, Williams tells me they aren’t excluded.

“A lot of it has to do with our cans,” Williams said.  “We’re always looking at different vendors, staying faithful to the ones that we’ve had and that have helped us. Yet, we’re making sure that we can make enough product to sell.”

Despite some challenges, I’m told the focus is strengthening relationships with local businesses and providing them the support they need to grow.

“We need to do more to help support their workforce, to help them grow their revenue and their businesses, and help attract people back to Delaware once vacation season really comes back in full swing,” Senator Coons said.

“We do this every day because we love doing what we do. Brewing industry is a super strong industry in Delaware,” Williams said.

Senator Coons says that he’ll take the feedback he got today to push for more legislation. With the hospitality industry being one of the hardest hit during the pandemic, Senator Coons adds that looking to support and strengthen the industry is the best way to get it to bounce back.

Mispillion Brewery says despite some supply challenges things are looking solid for the future.
