OC Mayor, Council give re-development project idea thumbs up

OCEAN CITY, Md. – A multi-use model block re-development project could be solving issues in the resort town.

The Ocean City Development Corporation recently presented a proposal to the Mayor and Council for a project between Somerset and Dorchester Streets.

Their plan is to bring workforce housing, office, and commercial space, and an Ocean City Police Department substation for its bike patrol and housing for its seasonal employees.

It would be built in two phases.

This project is something that Mayor Rick Meehan said could be beneficial if all goes well.

“I think it’s going to solve a number of problems, it’s going to supply a place for seasonal employees or workforce employees in the downtown areas, I think it will create an atmosphere where it generates people moving about the downtown area which will be good for all the businesses in that area,” Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan, said.

The Ocean City Development Corporation was looking for conceptual approval during that recent meeting.

Mayor Meehan said the concept got the unanimous support of the council.
