Homicide-suicide under investigation in Bridgeville


RIDGEVILLE, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a homicide-suicide that happened Thursday night in the Bridgeville area

We’re told at around 10:45 p.m., troopers responded to the 100 block of Emily’s Pintail Drive for a reported shooting. Prior to arrival, it was determined that the homeowners, a 71-year-old man and his wife, had returned to their residences at approximately 9:30 p.m. The female was reportedly in the first floor bathroom when she heard footsteps on the second floor, where her 58-year-old brother lives. Immediately after hearing the footsteps, she heard a loud bang, and found her husband in the family room with an apparent gunshot wound. She then ran to a neighbor’s house where police were called.

Officers arrived on scene to find the 71-year-old man deceased in the family room with an apparent gunshot wound. Police then searched the residence and found the 58-year-old male suspect dead upstairs in his bedroom with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.

We’re told autopsies will be performed to determine the manner and cause of death. Police say there is no concern for public safety, and no motive has been established for this incident.
