Delaware reports record number of positive cases and hospitalizations amid COVID surge
DELAWARE — The Delaware Division of Public Health provided an update on the most recent statistics for coronavirus.
DPH recorded the highest number of new positive daily cases since the start of the pandemic. As of December 29, 2021, the state had 3,381 positive cases. COVID hospitalizations surpassed the record high this week with 485 individuals hospitalized as of December 30, 2021. The previous high was 474 on January 12, 2021.
Due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 and the contagiousness of the Omicron variant, DPH suggests people not to gather with others outside of their household for New Year’s celebrations this weekend. When people gather indoors – where they share the same air – the very fine droplets and particles will continue to spread and can accumulate, and infection is likely.
