‘Together We Can Feed A Friend’ campaign tackles food insecurity, organizers asking for community help

SALISBURY, Md.- One organization is stepping up to help one local downtown favorite by supporting community members who are food insecure.

Housing First Salisbury and Together Café announced the Together We Can Feed A Friend Campaign. The owners of the café are known for their giving spirits, providing food for anyone who comes in hungry and cant afford to pay.

Housing officials say now it’s time for the rest of the community to join in and lend a helping hand, as the cold weather marks the holidays and giving season.

Customers who visit the café are encouraged to drop a donation of any value in the donation box. Organizers tell 47ABC that making sure that no one in the community goes without food takes all hands on deck.

“COVID has really limited the resources that are available and because of the eviction moratorium being lifted we’re seeing a lot more people homeless than we normally see,” City of Salisbury Housing & Homelessness Manger Christine Chestnutt said.  “So it’s just important that we kind of step up whether that’s a dollar, a hundred dollars, or a thousand dollars. That way Together Café can continue to feed those who don’t have regular access to food.”

Chestnutt says no donation is too small, as everything adds up. Housing First Salisbury also wants to give a special shoutout to Together Café for all they do for the community.
