Open enrollment begins Monday for Md. health plans

Healthcare Bill For Communities Of Color

BALTIMORE, Md. – Open enrollment for the 2022 plan year begins on Monday for Marylanders in need of affordable healthcare.

This year, many will be able to get a health plan for as little as $1 a month. Officials say there are now savings available for households at all income levels, and a new Maryland law allows for adults ages 18 to 34 to get discounts on top of other savings.

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 expanded savings to households with incomes higher than 400% of the Federal Poverty Level and will be in effect for all of 2022. This triples the number of enrollees who are in this higher income bracket, and has especially helped adults between 55 and 65, whose numbers have reportedly grown by 0ne-third on Maryland Health Connection this year.

Open enrollment runs from November 1, 2021, through January 15, 2022. Coverage starts January 1, 2022, for plans selected before December 31st, and coverage starts on February 1, 2022 for plans selected during the first two weeks of January. Those who qualify for Medicaid may enroll any time of year.

To look at health plans and enroll, you can visit Maryland Health Connection’s website. Assistance is also available in more than 200 languages, including Relay for the deaf and hard of hearing, by phone at 1-855-642-8572. Consumers can also chat with a live agent online Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
