New Wawa opens in Seaford

SEAFORD, Del. – A new Wawa location opened its doors on Friday in Seaford, marking the 9th location for the chain in Sussex county.

The event kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ‘Hoagies For Heroes’ sandwich-making competition between the Seaford Fire and Police departments.

The goal was to make as many hoagies in under 3 minutes, with the fire department coming away with the win. Both departments left with a donation from Wawa. The police department’s check went to local charity Good Ol’ Boys,  while the fire department got the money to help maintain their firehouse. Wawa’s Area Manager tells us they wanted to show the community their support.

“This contest gives us a way to recognize our local heroes and communities’ local partners and have some fun at the same time,” said Wawa Area Manager Cheryl McAroy.

Seaford Fire Chief Jack Wilson, tells us he’s glad the new business is already giving back to the community.

“I think its important for all businesses in Seaford but Wawa coming here out of the box and donating to the fire department and local charities is really important for how we grow,” he said.

That Wawa will be offering free coffee for 15 days straight starting today as part of its grand opening. Their managers tell us this is not the last time they expect to partner up with local law enforcement for a charity fundraiser.
