ARPBA pushing to reverse the ban on plastic bags

DELMARVA – One organization is pushing to reverse the ban on plastic bags, saying plastic bags are the more sustainable, and environmentally friendly option.

The American Recyclable Plastic Bag Alliance tells 47 ABC, plastic bags are actually the best option, as long as they’re recycled properly.

We’re told, thin-gauge plastic bags are the better option because alternatives are more expensive for the consumer and to produce. The organization says policies to ban the option of plastic bags will only continue to affect the supply chain issue. They tell us, with their ‘take back program,’ consumers have the ability to properly recycle plastic bags, without hurting their wallets, or negatively affecting the environment.

“At a time when people are struggling, at a time when small businesses are struggling, these policies are just sort of the wrong time and the wrong approach when it comes to sustainability,” says Zachary Taylor, Director of the ARPBA. He adds, “By promoting recycled content, increased recycling and consumer, are all things we prioritize and think represent a better way to go about it.”
