Victim of fatal motorcycle crash in Dover identified

DOVER, Del. – Delaware State Police have identified the motorcyclist who died in a crash on Forrest Avenue on Friday.

Police say the victim is 25-year-old Corey Mayes of Henderson, Md.

Around 3:20 p.m. Friday police say a 2005 Honda Accord driven by a 32-year-old Dover man was traveling westbound on Forest Avenue, preparing to turn left onto Nault Road. At the same time, Mayes was driving a 2007 Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle eastbound on Forrest Avenue, approaching Nault Road. The driver of the Honda began to turn left into the path of the motorcycle. Police say Mayes tried to avoid the crash by hitting his brakes and laying the motorcycle on its side.

Mayes and his motorcycle collided with the Honda, and the force of the impact caused the Honda to spin and come to a stop in the southbound lane of Nault Road. Mayes was taken to Bayhealth Kent General, where was pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda was not hurt.
