Saints Peter and Paul Parish holds blessing ceremony for new school, community center buildings
EASTON, Md. – The Saints Peter and Paul Parish and School in Easton held a blessing ceremony on Friday to celebrate their new school buildings, family center, and athletic fields on their campus.
“It’s really been amazing that we were able to as a single parish be able to raise that kind of money to build these buildings and to make it part of something for everybody,” said Pastor James Nash.
The $21 million project was financed by the parish. Pastor Nash tells us that $16 million of that money came from just 10 donors. He tells us he’s looking forward to the entire community taking advantage of the space which includes a new cemetery and columbarium.
“Over 50 percent of our kids are not catholic- so they come from all kinds of backgrounds, not just Talbot County all over the place,” he said, adding, “The Maria Mitchell social hall is certainly fitting for receptions weddings baptisms, or bar mitzvah or quinceanera just a great space for the community to use.”
Students at the school tell us the new building is a big upgrade for athletics and academics.
“At the old school we had to share the gym with the middle school so their games and practices would interfere with ours sometimes so the gym will provide us with our own space and time to do things when we’d like to,” said senior Kyler Krewson.
“I’m most excited about just all the new space we have at the high school the old school was really unifying but now we have more opportunities to do more activities,” said Senior Janel Loaiza-Paucar.
The ceremony was supposed to include a blessing of all the doors to the new facilities but was moved indoors due to weather conditions. The new school building is already in use, with the family center and the fields still getting their finishing touches put in. Father Nash tells us the field is expected to be done before lacrosse season starts up with all new weight rooms opening up soon after.
