Bridgeville man strikes Fire Police Officer directing traffic in Seaford
SEAFORD, DE- Delaware State Police have arrested a Bridgeville man after they say he hit a Seaford Fire Officer directing traffic Saturday night.
Police say 56-year-old William Purnell hit an 83-year-old Seaford man who was directing traffic at the intersection of Cannon Road and Camp Road, sending the man to the hospital with serious injuries.
The fire police officer was wearing a high visibility traffic vest and was holding a light-up wand. We are told his car was parked next to him with the emergency lights on. Police say Purnell was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
He has been charged with felony first degree vehicular assault, driving under the influence, driving while suspended and inattentive driving.
