Health Experts Warn of Covid Surge From Labor Day Weekend on Delmarva
SALISBURY, MD – Big Crowds are coming to Ocean City, for labor day in a move that has health officials worried.
They say that certain activities are at higher risk than others and this labor day to keep an eye out for venues that may not be as safe as advertised.
Health Experts from Tidal Health told 47abc that not all outdoor venue spaces are created equal- and concerts where people could be in close proximity, or indoors at normal pre-covid capacity are higher risk activities.
They say going to the beach and keeping that mask on until out on the sand and at least 10 feet away from others is a good bet and outdoor dining.
However they admit people will be gathering in large groups close together as part of the weekend, and that will bring on more cases.
“It is a cause for concern every time we have a weekend like this and we see spikes and I hate to see it but people will get seriously sick and some will die,” said Tidal Health Dr and Covid Response Manager Jim Trumble.
He says one thing we won’t have to worry about for now is the Mu Variant of Covid.
He says while that measure has scientists and doctors paying attention, it is not prevalent enough yet to be a real concern.
He says like Delta, Mu can evade anti-bodies, and he cautions people to wear masks indoors when possible to prevent the spread of those varients- and others this labor day weekend.
