Driver speeds away from police, crashes into telephone pole and tree in Millsboro
MILLSBORO, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash that happened Saturday night.
Police say around 9:20 p.m. a trooper on patrol was traveling southbound on Gravel Hill Road. The trooper was driving behind a blue 2006 Hyundai Sonata. Police say the driver of the Hyundai was speeding, then came to a stop at the intersection with Mount Joy Road.
That’s when police say the driver of the Hyundai signaled he was going to turn right onto Morris Mill Road, but instead made an abrupt left turn onto Mount Joy Road. The trooper tried to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver of the Hyundai sped away. Police say the driver then passed a vehicle in a solid double-lined lane, lost control, hit a telephone pole, then rolled and hit a tree.
The 30-year-old driver from Milton was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt and was airlifted to Christiana Medical Center. A 28-year-old female passenger from Milton was wearing her seatbelt and taken to Christiana Medical Center. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending for the driver of the Hyundai. He could be facing charges for second degree vehicular assault, disregarding a police officer’s signal, speeding, reckless driving, and more.
