Delaware Lawmakers and Planned Parenthood Call For End To Texas Abortion Ban During Virtual Protest

WILMINGTON, DE- Delaware Lawmakers and Pro-choice advocates are teaming up through a virtual Protest to demand the Supreme Court challenging a Texas law that bans abortion after 6 weeks.
The controversial law also creates a bounty system where Texas citizens can report women, health care workers, or anyone they believe involved in abortion after 6 weeks and get a $10,000 reward.
It directly contradicts Roe V. Wade but the Supreme Court has yet to challenge the bill, allowing it to go into effect Wednesday.
Lawmakers in Delaware say they made sure abortion rights were in the state’s constitution to protect women from this type of legislation, and a lax Supreme Court that would not fight laws that in effect repeal Roe V. Wade’s protection for abortion access.
“These bills are designed to chip away at our basic rights shame women and intimidate health care providers who are simply providing care for patients,” said Delaware House Rep Valerie Longhurst speaking at the event.
Longhurst was joined by other Delaware Lawmakers who vowed to put pressure on Washington and the Supreme Court to take the case and strike down the law.
Speakers at the event pointed to the fact that Texas is not alone, with nearly 600 bills being introduced limiting abortion rights in state legislatures across the country.
They say as a result 2021 has been the most restrictive year for female reproductive rights in the last 4 decades.
