Biden visit to Rehoboth Beach boosts town pride, business sales

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – President Joe Biden arrived in Rehoboth Beach Friday afternoon for a planned weekend trip.

Businesses and Government Officials in the town say the visits are a point of pride for the community and drive a boost of people coming into town.

“Whenever the president comes there is certainly a buzz and excitement about town that he’s coming to town,” said Rehoboth Mayor Stan Mills.

As the weekend gets underway, Rehoboth Beach officials are expecting President Biden to make himself at home, stopping in local shops and speaking with residents and visitors.

“We expect, I expect the famously friendly Joe Biden, to still be out walking around town,” Mayor Mills said.

The trip is President Biden’s second visit to Rehoboth since becoming president.

Mayor Stan Mills says his police department is doing its part to keep him safe.

“The role of the Rehoboth Beach Police Department is to support the secret service and help coordinate his visits when he comes to town,” he said.

But they’re not the only ones supporting the secret service.

Egg, a popular brunch spot in the town, says his security detail often stops by for breakfast when Biden visits and with them usually comes customers hoping for a chance to see the president in person.

“it’s definitely been very crazy here people know he’s here and they try and come in as early as they can it’s I mean it’s hard to keep up with almost,” said restaurant server Nikki Swider adding “it definitely brings in a lot of people just because they are curious.”

Swider told 47ABC, it’s the end of the season to boost her business needs.

“It’s getting busier and busier even with the off-season approaching I really don’t think there’s going to be much of an off-season now with him here,” she said.
