Tri-County Go Purple Kick-Off event planned for Aug. 21

Wicomico County is gearing up to go purple again this year. It’s part of an awareness campaign about the dangers of substance misuse and abuse. For the first time organizers are teaming up with Worcester and Somerset Counties for a kick-off event later this month.

The Tri-County Go Purple Kick-off Event will be held August 21 at Arthur Perdue Stadium. The family friendly event will be held as the Delmarva Shorebirds take on the Fredericksburg Nationals.

They will have staff on hand to provide naloxone training, that’s the life saving medicine that can reverse the effects of opioids. After a quick training session, they will have naloxone that you can take home in case of emergency.

There will be fireworks after the game, but organizers hope they can provide resources to those who may be struggling and not know where to turn for help.

Wicomico Goes Purple Co-Chair Christina Bowie-Simpson says, “We go purple to help spark conversation, so we can help normalize these conversations, help destigmatize, kind of, the association that goes along with substance misuse. But we also really want to support those who may be struggling with a substance abuse disorder.”

47 ABC is proud to once again be a sponsor of Wicomico Goes Purple. You can learn more about the campaign here.

As for the Tri-County event on the 21st, the game starts at 7:05, with pre-show fun starting at 6:30PM. Organizers tell us they will also have covid-19 vaccines available.

If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction there are resources available on each of the Counties health department pages. Click on the name below for more information:
