Fruitland invites community to National Night Out celebration

FRUITLAND, Md. –

Tuesday night agencies across the country will be celebrating National Night Out. The annual event is held to bring neighbors together with law enforcement and other groups to encourage a true sense of community.

We spoke with Fruitland Police today about plans for their event. They tell us it’s a great opportunity for kids and neighbors to get to know area officials in a social setting. Plus they love the opportunity to show kids that the Police can be their friend.

Fruitland Police Chief Brian Swafford says, “There’s games and there’s food, and everything’s completely free . . . there’s going to be demonstrations from the Fire Marshal’s office, with bomb dogs, and robots, and we’re going to have Police K9 demonstrations and the fire departments out there,so it’s not just about the police department.”

Fruitland’s event runs from 5PM to 8PM at the recreational park facility on South Brown Street. While most agencies celebrate National Night out on the first Tuesday in August, some do schedule it on other dates. For example, Pittsville is celebrating on Wednesday night. It’s best to check with your local town to find out when yours will be celebrating.
