13 state employees in Del. rack up more than $100k in overtime during 2020
DELAWARE – A group of state employees in Delaware racked up more than $100,000 in overtime alone last year. The Associated Press reports that it’s a sharp increase over the amount in previous years.
The 13 employees who reportedly collected six figures in overtime payments included State troopers, four psychiatric nurses, and a corrections officer. The employees averaged anywhere from 21 to 47 hours a week of overtime, according to the AP. Over the pasty decade, the number of employees earning more than $100,000 in overtime never went past six.
Delaware State Police points to work at Black Lives Matter protests and President Joe Biden’s visits to the state for the extra hours. The state’s psychiatric center, meanwhile, says they are facing chronic short staffing. The Associated Press says overall, overtime payments to state workers in 2020 decreased slightly, compared to 2019 and 2018.
