HARRINGTON, Del. – 29-year-old Gerald Scott and 28-year-old Alkeia Tripplet of New Castle City were arrested in Harrington for theft charges Monday.

Harrington Police say on June 21, 2021 officers responded to Taylor and Messick Inc. about a lawnmower that was purchased fraudulently. After that, police say the suspects used the card information to buy the lawnmower, then showed up to pick it up from the company and left. At that time, the suspects were unknown.

Investigators were able to find out that the suspects used someone else’s information to buy the lawnmower through a credit card company. Police say the victim lives in Georgia. After the victim reported the false charge on their credit card statement, police were able to identify Scott and Tripplet as the suspects involved. Police say Scott and Tripplet dropped off the lawnmower at an unknown location in New Castle County after the purchase. The lawnmower has not been recovered yet.

Police obtained warrants for Scott and Tripplet, but they turned themselves in at the Harrington Police Department. Both suspects were charged with theft by false pretense over $1,500 and second degree conspiracy. Scott and Tripplet were arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court #2. They were released on their own recognizance, pending a future court appearance. Police are still investigating the incident, and believe more suspects could be involved.
