Millsboro man charged in Rehoboth Beach hit and run
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A Millsboro man is facing multiple charges after leaving the scene of a hit and run crash in Rehoboth Beach. Delaware State Police say around 4:50 p.m. Saturday, 46-year-old Derek M. White was driving westbound on Rehoboth Beach Ext. (SR1A) in the area of Church Street. A 20-year-old Rehoboth Beach woman was riding her bicycle in front of him on the shoulder, when White hit her bike with his 2015 Jeep.
The force of the impact threw the victim off of her bike, and into the entrance of the Henlopen Square shopping complex. The victim was treated on scene by EMS, then airlifted to Christiana Medical Center with serious injuries. Meanwhile, police say White left the scene and was later spotted by a witness in the parking lot of Grand Rental Station on Hebron Road. White was taken into custody without incident. Police say they conducted a DUI investigation, and took White back to Troop 7.
White is now facing multiple charges, including 1st degree vehicular assault, which is a felony. He is also charged with driving under the influence of drugs, leaving the scene of a crash resulting in injury, and failing to remain in a single lane. White is also facing charges for failure to report a crash resulting in injury or death, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and failure to report a crash resulting in injury or death. White was arraigned at JP3 and taken to Sussex Correctional Institution on $3,500 cash bond.
