Food Bank of Delaware, Food Lion team up to host Hunger Relief Day at the Delaware State Fair

HARRINGTON, Del. – If you’re planning on visiting the Delaware State Fair and want to give back to the community while having fun, there’s a great opportunity for you.

The Food Bank of Delaware and Food Lion are teaming up to collect non-perishable food items to feed those who need it the most. If you bring five non-perishable Food Lion brand items when you enter the fair, you’ll get a free ticket in exchange.

Organizers say this year they’re hoping to break their record of 25,000 pounds of food donations, and so far, it looks like they could reach that goal.

“We have folks that come up and just bring a donation and say ‘I don’t want a ticket. I just want to donate something here for folks in need.’ So, that is the bigger picture behind the whole thing, and it’s something that Food Lion takes very seriously. We have a lot of passion around Food Lion Feeds and getting food to folks who need it,” said Bob Mills, Regional Support Specialist with Food Lion.

Food Lion also donated $10,00 to the Food Bank of Delaware in the effort to fight hunger Monday morning. Mills also told 47 ABC that he had so many people reaching out to volunteer with the food collection that he actually had to turn people away.
