Clean Team works hard to keep fairgrounds clean and safe
HARRINGTON, Del. – When you go to the Delaware State Fair, of course, you’re going to be dazzled by the flashing lights and sound of rides zooming around at the carnival, and of course the smell of all that delicious food. But what you might not notice is the team of hardworking people who work all day long to make sure your experience at the fair is fun, clean, and most importantly, safe.
This is Steven Miller, one of the hard-working members of the Clean Team at the Delaware State Fair.
“It kind of fills me with pride because without me I could just imagine what this place would look like.”
And if you ask some of the vendors he helps to keep a clean shop, he might just be the MVP.
“He’s always really respectful. He goes around to all these vendors out here and just asks ‘Hey, you guys got any trash for me to take out today?’ We’ll point him in the right direction if we have it. If we don’t have it we’ll say ‘No, not right now. But do you need a water or anything?’” says Erik Krezmien with Jack’s French Fries.
Steven says he starts his day pretty early on, checking in with his team leaders, and getting ready to go.
“I put on gloves, those plastic gloves, and pull around a wagon and I will say ‘Do you have any trash?’ And they will say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’.”
Even through all that hard work, Steven says positivity and treating everyone with respect is the key to a job well done.
“Treat people the way you want to be treated. For example, this is the way you want to be treated, like ‘Hi, how are you?’”
If you’re here at the fair and you see the Clean Team out and about, take a minute to say hi and thank them for all their hard work, because as Steven said, sometimes something as small as that can make their day.
