Five arrested for armed robbery in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md. – Ocean City Police have arrested five people in connection to an armed robbery that took place early Thursday morning.

We’re told at around 3:45 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of 27th Street for a report of an armed robbery. On arrival, officers met with the 18-year-old victim from Reading, PA. The victim told people that he had exchanged words with five individuals on a motel balcony. The five individuals then reportedly confronted the victim in the parking lot, and one of the suspects lifted his shirt and displayed the grip of a handgun to the victim.

The five individuals then robbed the victim of his personal property before fleeing the area.

The victim was able to provide people with detailed descriptions of the five suspects. Two of the suspects were arrested a few hours later in the vicinity of the robbery. A short time later, officers saw the remaining three suspects return to the motel and then leave in a vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated on the vehicle, during which officers found loaded handguns on two of the suspects. More than 10 grams of marijuana was also found inside the vehicle, and officers found some of the victim’s personal property following a search of the suspect’s motel room.

20-year-old Lawar Turner of Trappe, MD, was charged with armed robbery, robbery, handgun in vehicle, loaded handgun in vehicle, handgun on person, loaded handgun on person, possession of firearm/ammo as a minor, handgun use/felony violent crime, illegal possession of a firearm, and other related charges. Turner was held without bond.

19-year-old Ja’avier Pierce of Easton, MD, was charged with trespass posted property, armed robbery, and robbery. Pierce was held without bond.

21-year-old Jahza Barney of Easton, MD, was charged with armed robbery, robbery, possession of marijuana 10+ grams, and driving without a license. Barney was held without bond.

A 17-year-old Cambridge teen was charged with armed robbery, robbery, handgun in vehicle, loaded handgun in vehicle, handgun on person, loaded handgun on person, possession of firearm/ammo as a minor, handgun use/felony violent crime, and possession of marijuana 10+ grams. A 17-year-old Easton teen was charged with armed robbery and robbery. Both juveniles were waived to adult status and held without bond.
