UPDATE: DSP investigating crash that killed 19-year-old, seriously injured 17-year-old


6/21 UPDATE: Delaware State Police have identified the victim in this crash as 19-year-old Elijah Brown of Harrington, DE.

The crash remains under investigation.


MILFORD, Del. – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal crash that ended with a 19-year-old dead an a 17-year-old seriously injured. Police say the crash happened at about 9:40 p.m. Saturday night on Milford-Harrington Highway.

Police say a 17-year-old female from Greenwood was driving a Toyota Camry from Milford to Harrington. That’s when police say she tried to pass a vehicle in a no-passing zone. At that same time, a tractor trailer driven by a 31-year-old Georgetown man was traveling in the opposite direction in the other lane. Police say the 17-year-old tried to swerve out of the way, but ended up colliding with the tractor trailer head on.

The tractor trailer flipped onto its side and landed in the middle of the road. Meanwhile, the Toyota Camry spun and landed in a nearby yard. The 17-year-old driver was seriously injured, and air lifted to an area hospital. Her 19-year-old male passenger from Harrington was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer had minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
