Bolden’s late layup lifts Seaford to win over Dover

Blue Jays advance to state quarterfinals

SEAFORD, De- The Seaford Blue Jays overcame a ten point second half deficit to pull off a 59-57 win over Dover on Saturday night. Freshman Careen Bolden layed-in the game’s final basket with less than three seconds remaining.

The Senators, led by sophomore star Jahiem Harrell (27 points), took their largest lead (10) of the game in the third quarter. Seaford would battle back to cut it to 45-42 headed into the fourth.

In the final quarter, Tyrese Fortune hit a three pointer with 2:34 left in the game to give the Jays their first lead of the half. After more back and forth action, the game would end up tied at 57 with :55 seconds remaining.

Dover would have a chance to hold the ball for the final shot, only to turn it over with less than 20 seconds remaining. Bolden would get the ball with six seconds left, drive to the bucket, and put in a left-handed layup to take the lead. After a timeout, Harrell’s half court heave would hit front rim, pushing Seaford to the state quarterfinals.

The Blue Jays will travel to Tower Hill on Tuesday, for a 6:30 tip-off, and a chance at the state semifinals.
