CAMP Rehoboth celebrates Black History Month, expands programming
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – CAMP Rehoboth is celebrating Black History Month with a schedule packed full of virtual events. They’re also hosting the the Black Histories and Future Visions art show. “During the month of February, Black History Month, we’d like to give focus to black artists. The exhibit includes the work of seven artists,” said CAMP Rehoboth board of directors member Leslie Sinclair.
Their online events will center around discussing things like the history of desegregation in Delaware, and the intersection between identifying as a person of color and as LGBTQ+. “A large part of our community doesn’t acknowledge or understand the intersectionality. So we’re hoping that this will allow people to begin to get a grasp of why that’s important, and how we can make a difference in the lives of those community members,” said Director of Health and Wellness Programs for CAMP Rehoboth Sal Seeley.
CAMP Rehoboth also has one more exciting announcement for the coming weeks. “We’re finally beginning a black, indigenous, people of color group that’s going to start meeting in March. We hope that’s going to run either bi-weekly or monthly. So, we’re taking programs that are normally just run for a month but now we’re going to expand them to year round programming,” said Seeley.
