Worcester Goes Purple collecting shoes to benefit local addiction recovery efforts, businesses in developing countries

WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Worcester Goes Purple is holding a shoe drive fundraiser during January and February. The funds will be used to help pay for addiction recovery efforts in Worcester and Wicomico Counties. New and gently used men’s, women’s, and children’s shoes of all kinds are being accepted. Worcester Goes Purple will raise money based on the total weight of pairs collected.

All donated shoes will then be redistributed through Funds2Orgs, a network of small business partners in developing countries. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we raise money for those struggling with the disease of addiction, and we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone,” said Debbie Smullen with Worcester Goes Purple.

Shoes can be dropped off at Worcester Youth and Family in Berlin, Ocean Pines Community Center and Worcester County Health Department Outer Lobby in Snow Hill. Contactless drive-through collections are also being set up throughout Wicomico and Worcester County.   For more information, you can reach Smullen at (410) 870-5161.
