Main Street Princess Anne gets national accreditation

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Main Street Princess Anne organization is now nationally recognized. It was designated as a 2020 accredited Main Street America program. “We worked really closely with the town of Princess Anne, with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, with the Somerset County government. We also worked with local business owners,” said Main Street Princess Anne Manager Carrie Samis.

Samis says this is exciting news, as it will provide extra support for local businesses. “We have access to that network of organizations and individuals who really help to guide us and give us connections – folks we can reach out to when we’re looking for advice,” said Samis.

The designation also also opens up grant funding opportunities. For example, Samis says 13 local businesses received a $1,000 grant award through the Main Street Princess Anne Covid-19 Relief and Recovery grant program. Samis says that wouldn’t have been possible without the designation.

Samis tells 47ABC that she sees this as a huge opportunity for growth, and the roots are already showing. “We’re so fortunate right now that – while in fact our businesses are struggling – none of them have closed permanently. We’ve actually had several folks contact us about the possibility of opening new businesses in Princess Anne,” said Samis.
