Del. Law Enforcement Accountability Task Force publishes interim report

DELAWARE – Delaware’s Law Enforcement Accountability Task Force released its preliminary interim report. The task force is broken into four categories. Those include Use of Force and Imminent Danger, Workforce Development, Community Policing and Engagement, and Transparency and Accountability.

Delaware State Representative Ruth Briggs King said during Tuesday’s LEATF meeting she’s happy to see progress being made. Rep. Briggs King also said she is already thinking ahead to how the task force can be even better. “There is an awful lot of overlap. So the idea is that we should be able to line these things up and then really make some targeted recommendations. But I do thank everyone,” said Rep. Ruth Briggs King.

Rep. Briggs King is a part of the Workforce Development subcommittee. In a statement given to 47ABC she says in part quote “Many of the issues and opinions regarding law enforcement and their performance are centered around their job performance and corrective action being transparent. These are human resource issues.”

The representative went on to say she hopes to see more community engagement in the task force. She wrote in part, “We heard from many ‘regional’ spokespeople, but few from members of our public.  We have been fortunate to not have the urban problems in our rural area; however, it doesn’t mean there are not concerns we need to consider.”
