Worcester Public Library launches hot spot borrowing program
WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. – Worcester Public Library is stepping up to help those who are struggling with internet connectivity issues by offering hot spot rentals. The new program allows anyone 18 years old or older with a library card to rent a hot spot for free. “For some people we are the only place that they can go to get an internet connection, to have access to computers, and to get a job,” said Worcester Public Library Assistant Director Rachael Stein.
Stein says now that people are working and learning online more than every before, it’s important to provide this resource to the community. She adds that being connected to the internet could help folks who are trying to get back on their feet. “Almost anywhere now, from Walmart to Wawa, you need to apply online. People need to know how to use computers. They need to fill out those job applications. Of course in the last nine months people have had to apply for unemployment unfortunately,” said Stein.
The hot spots are ready to be borrowed and can be rented out for 30 days at a time. Stein also says if anyone needs help setting up the hot spots or has questions about using them, library staff are available for assistance.
