Wicomico Cold Weather Shelter opening soon in Salisbury, in need of volunteers

WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – The Community Emergency Shelter Project, as well as others in the community, are getting ready to open the Wicomico Cold Weather Shelter on January 2.

We are told the shelter is set to open January 2 at the Langeler Building in Salisbury.

During this process of getting ready to open their doors, we are told they are facing challenges.

They first were having a difficult time finding a location for the shelter.

Also, due to the pandemic, not many people are wanting to volunteer, and they need those volunteers to function by helping to prepare meals and to keep an eye on the shelter.

“It’s going to take a community to help, there’s other shelters in the area but they’re at full capacity,” says Walter Davidson, the coordinator of CESP. “It’s tight trying to organize meals, trying to organize volunteers to come to it, which is what we need both of.”

We are told the shelter will be open until March 27, 2021.

Their hours will be 5 p.m. to 7 a.m.
