McKibbin’s late score sends Polytech to state final

Panthers will take on Cape for 2020 Division I title Saturday

GEORGETOWN, De- Polytech senior Mairead McKibbin scored the go-ahead goal with 1:04 left in regulation– giving Polytech to a 2-1 win over Sussex Tech in the DIAA Division I semifinals on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was scoreless all the way thru the fourth, when Poly’s Cecilia Rivera found the back of the cage near the 12 minute mark off a corner. Sussex Tech would answer just three minutes later, when Alexa Rolph’s deflection knotted the game at 1-1 with just over nine minutes left in regulation.

With just over one minute left, Polytech would force another corner. McKibbin would get a stick on a shot from Megan Popp, popping the ball up and over the shoulder of the Tech keeper.

The Panthers will take on Cape Henlopen on Saturday for the DIAA Division I state championship.
