Holiday House Tour lights up Wicomico County for a good cause
WICOMICO COUNTY, Md. – If you’re looking for some family-friendly holiday fun, and a way to support a local non profit, look no further than Wicomico County. HORIZONS Delmarva is putting on a holiday house tour that shows off some of the county’s best decorated homes this year. “This fundraiser has 16 houses. You can just drive around while supporting a great organization,” said Alexis Roberston.
Robertson volunteers with HORIZONS Delmarva, and her family is participating in the Holiday House Tour. She says she and her family wanted to get involved so they could boost holiday spirit and support a good cause. “It is such a wonderful program that expands all throughout Wicomico County and helps so many youth in the community,” said Robertson.
People can buy a tour booklet for $30 and drive around to see holiday decorations while staying safely inside their vehicles. HORIZONS Delmarva Board Chair Carole Rollins says the organization had to cancel some of their biggest fundraising events this year. “We usually have two big events, one in the fall and one in the spring, that had to be cancelled because of COVID,” said Rollins.
Rollin says because of that, they wanted to find a way to keep supporting the children they work with. “We keep up their learning skills, teach them swimming in the summer, and also give them lots of experiences and prepare them for further learning even after regular schooling,” said Rollins.
The tour takes about two hours, and all the homes will stay lit up until December 27th. Robertson says the local community has already stepped up to show their support. “Lots of people in the community want to get involved and buy booklets because it is a really fun event to do with your family or by yourself,” said Robertson.
