Delmar field hockey ties the state record with their fifth straight DIAA state title
DOVER, Del.- Behind two goals from sophomore Maci Bradford, the No. 1 Delmar Wildcats defeated Caravel 4-1 for their fifth straight DIAA state title, only the second field hockey team to do that in DIAA history (Cape).
Coming into the state title game riding a 64 game win streak, including four state titles, Delmar jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals from Maci Bradford and Josie Hollamon in the first 16 minutes of the game. Caravel would answer though, a Taylor Youngson goal with 6:46 left in the half cut the deficit to 1. With under three minutes left until the break, Olivia Twilley would extend the Wildcats lead back to two with a goal of her own to make it 3-1 at half.
In the second half, Delmar drew a penalty stroke and Maci Bradford put the game away. Going top shelf for the goal to seal the Wildcats fifth straight state title with the 4-1 win over Caravel.
Delmar finishes their season with a perfect 16-0 record and the DII State Title.
